The Role of the Supervisor in Employee Perfrmance
|
In order to meet the demand to develop mid-level management,
Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana has developed the MSI
- a high impact, progressive program to help train your most
critical personnel: front-line and mid-level managers and
supervisors. Many times, individuals are moved into supervisory
roles with little or no training because they have other key
attributes recognized by the organization. While qualified
to perform the nuts and bolts of the job, they lack the necessary
communication, organization and motivational skills to effectively
get the job done through other people.
The MSI is designed to provide lower and mid-level managers
professional development training in communication, leadership,
interpersonal skills, and managerial performance. From the
first to the last day of this program, participants will be
engaged and involved. Each class will provide skills immediately
applicable on the job, and participants will keep a regular
journal/portfolio documenting learning, practices, successes
and an implementation plan for future behavioral change, which
will be reviewed by an instructor in order to provide individual
feedback throughout the program. Additionally, participants
will be required to present a final project encapsulating
one or more situations they have encountered which will be
handled more effectively as a result of enhanced skills.
Program Benefits
- Repeat class meetings allow participants to try out new
skills and come back with questions, success stories, etc.
This networking discussion will benefit all participants.
- Skills gleaned from this program will be immediately
applicable on the job.
- Participants and their organization gain from an increased
level of professionalism. Strong leaders, by example, facilitate
internal changes at every level.
- Stimulates new ideas and prepares supervisors and managers
to effectively deal with growth and change.
- Increases employee morale through greater job satisfaction,
and proves top-level management commitment to their success.
- Develops confidence in those entrusted with supervisory
responsibilities.
- Small class sizes allow for personalized attention, and
make all feel comfortable asking questions.
- Affordable, local training delivered by industry experts.

The MSI requires the commitment of an established cohort group.
By design, this group will move though the series as a participant
cluster, creating group synergy and building upon a variety of experiences.
The courses work together to build upon one another and learning
from previous classes is constantly being reinforced. The MSI culminates
with a graduation luncheon, including sponsoring employers, where
participants deliver a project overview summarizing the impact of
the training and how it will affect their work performance.
The program contains 105 contact hours made up of 15 –7 hour sessions over a 6month period. The institute cost is $2800 per person or register 2 or more from your company for $2500 per participant. Registration includes all materials and seating is limited, so register early.
Course Requirements: To earn the Institute certificate,
participants must complete at least 85% of all courses and participate
100% in the Project Review/Feedback. Additionally, assessment tests
must be completed for each module.
Special topics courses in Professional Development, as well as
the Management & Supervisory Institute program can also be conducted
for company groups on contract, or customized and targeted to specific
needs.
